Dryer Repair
Done Right.
No heat, loud thumps, or 'summoning demons'? Chad quiets it down. Chad gives you a straight diagnosis and an honest price before he starts.
Most dryers go quietly. They run, they heat, they tumble, and nobody thinks about them until one day they don't. By then there's usually a basket of wet laundry and a sinking feeling. The good news: most dryer problems are straightforward to diagnose and fix. The better news: Sasquatch Appliance Repair is local and can usually get there fast.
Common Symptoms
No heat. The most common dryer complaint. On electric dryers, this is almost always a failed heating element or a blown thermal fuse. On gas dryers, it's usually the igniter, flame sensor, or gas valve coils. A blown thermal fuse means the machine overheated — and the underlying cause (usually a blocked vent duct) needs to be fixed alongside the fuse.
Takes two or three cycles to dry a load. Usually a restricted exhaust duct or a weak heating element that's partially failed. In BCS humidity, a struggling dryer digs itself into a hole fast — the ambient moisture makes every load harder.
Making a loud thumping or rumbling noise. A rhythmic thump is almost always a worn drum roller or a fraying drum belt. A rumbling or squealing noise from the rear of the machine points to a worn drum bearing or idler pulley.
Drum won't turn. Drive belt has broken or the motor has failed. The belt is usually the culprit and is an inexpensive fix.
Shutting off mid-cycle. The thermal overload is tripping, which means the machine is overheating. Causes: blocked vent, failed cycling thermostat, or an electrical issue.
Burning smell. Lint accumulation in the exhaust system is a fire risk. Don't run the machine again until it's inspected.
Maintenance Tips
Clean the lint trap after every single load. This one task has an outsized effect on dryer life. A clogged lint screen restricts airflow, makes every cycle harder, and is a contributing factor in dryer fires.
Get the exhaust duct cleaned once a year. Lint accumulates in the duct regardless of how clean the trap is. A full duct cleaning costs far less than a heating element replacement — and infinitely less than a fire.
Don't overload. Overfilling the drum prevents clothes from tumbling freely, which means they don't dry evenly and the motor runs under higher load.
Make sure the vent path is short and has as few elbows as possible. Long duct runs and multiple 90-degree bends dramatically reduce airflow. Flexible foil duct (the accordion-style stuff) should be replaced with rigid or semi-rigid metal — it traps lint and collapses.
Signs It's Near the End of the Trail
The dryer is over 15 years old and needs a drum replacement or a motor. At that age, you're close to the machine's reasonable service life and parts availability may be limited.
You've already replaced the heating element once in the past few years and it's blown again. That's a symptom of persistent airflow restriction, and if the machine is older, it may not be worth chasing.
There's significant rust on the interior drum. Surface rust is cosmetic, but drum rust that's flaking can damage clothes and indicates deeper corrosion.
We'll tell you straight: fix it or replace it, and why.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you charge for estimates?
For most repairs, we provide a diagnostic assessment and quote before any work begins. You'll know the cost upfront before we turn a wrench. There is a standard service call fee to come out and diagnose — that fee is applied toward your repair if you choose to proceed.
What areas do you serve?
We serve Bryan, College Station, and the surrounding Brazos Valley communities. If you're nearby and not sure whether we cover your area, give us a call at 979-402-1241 and we'll let you know.
What brands do you work on?
We work on all major appliance brands including Whirlpool, Maytag, GE, Samsung, LG, Frigidaire, Bosch, KitchenAid, Electrolux, Speed Queen, and more — both gas and electric, top-load and front-load. If you're not sure whether your brand or model is serviceable, just ask.
Do you offer same-day or emergency service?
We do our best to accommodate same-day appointments, especially for urgent situations like a refrigerator that's stopped cooling. Availability varies by day. Call 979-402-1241 and we'll let you know what we can do.
What's included in the maintenance plans?
Each maintenance plan includes an inspection and service visit for one or more appliances, depending on the plan tier. We check key components, clean critical areas (coils, filters, vents), run performance tests, and flag any early warning signs before they become expensive repairs. The Lil' Squatch Check covers one appliance; the Squatch Tune-Up covers two; Beast Mode covers your whole home. Replacement parts and labor for repairs found during the inspection are not included in the package pricing but will be quoted before any work proceeds.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept cash, check, and most major credit and debit cards. Payment is due at the time of service.
Do you fix gas appliances, or only electric?
We work on both gas and electric appliances — ovens, ranges, dryers, and more. All gas work is performed to manufacturer specification. If a gas line connection or shutoff is involved beyond the appliance itself, we'll let you know and coordinate accordingly.
What should I do if my appliance is making a burning smell or sounds dangerous?
Stop using it immediately. Unplug it if it's electric, or turn off the gas supply valve if it's a gas appliance. A burning smell — especially plastic or electrical — can indicate a fire risk. Call us at 979-402-1241 and we'll prioritize getting someone out to you. Don't run the appliance again until it's been inspected.
