Dishwasher Repair
Done Right.

Not cleaning, draining, or filling? Chad ends the strike and gets it back to spotless. Chad gives you a straight diagnosis and an honest price before he starts.

The dishwasher is the quietest hero in the kitchen, running every night without complaint — until it doesn't. When it stops cleaning, starts leaking, or decides to retain a day's worth of dirty water, the inconvenience is immediate. Sasquatch Appliance Repair fixes dishwashers across Bryan and College Station, and most repairs are done in a single visit.

Common Symptoms

Not cleaning dishes well. The most common dishwasher complaint — and the most often misdiagnosed. In a huge number of cases, the culprit is a clogged filter at the bottom of the tub that's been recirculating dirty water through the spray arms. But it can also be worn or clogged spray arms, a weak wash pump, or a failed water inlet valve delivering insufficient pressure.

Not draining. Standing water at the bottom of the tub after a cycle is almost always the drain pump, a clogged drain hose, or a failed check valve. A backed-up kitchen drain can also prevent proper dishwasher drainage — something worth ruling out first.

Leaking. A leaking door is usually a worn door gasket or a faulty door latch that doesn't seal properly under pressure. Water under the machine often points to a failed pump seal or a cracked hose connection.

Not filling with water. The water inlet valve is the most common cause. If the dishwasher runs but the interior stays dry, the valve may have failed or the float switch (which prevents overfilling) may be stuck in the closed position.

Making unusual noises. Grinding or humming during the wash cycle is usually the wash pump struggling against debris or a worn pump motor. A buzzing sound is often the drain pump.

Door won't latch. A loose or misaligned door latch prevents the cycle from starting. Latch mechanisms are relatively inexpensive to replace.

Maintenance Tips

Clean the filter monthly. Many homeowners don't know their dishwasher has a manual filter — it's the cylindrical screen at the bottom of the tub. Unscrew it, rinse it under the faucet, and put it back. This single task eliminates a huge percentage of "not cleaning" complaints.

Run hot water at the sink before starting a cycle. The water line to your dishwasher shares the hot water path with your kitchen faucet. Running the tap until hot ensures the first fill cycle starts at the right temperature, especially in larger BCS homes where the water heater is far from the kitchen.

Use a dishwasher cleaner once a month. Run a cleaning tablet or a cup of white vinegar in the bottom rack with no dishes. The Brazos Valley's hard water leaves mineral deposits on spray arms, heating elements, and pump components.

Don't rinse dishes completely before loading. It sounds counterintuitive, but modern dishwashers are calibrated for lightly soiled dishes — the detergent needs something to work with. Scrape, don't rinse.

Signs It's Near the End of the Trail

The control board has failed on a dishwasher that's over 10 years old. Control boards are expensive relative to the machine's value and there's no guarantee other components won't follow.

You have a combination of a failed pump, a leaking tub liner, and rusting racks. At that point the machine is aging out across multiple systems simultaneously.

Parts availability has dried up for the model. Older or discontinued dishwashers can be difficult to source parts for, and the repair stops making sense.

We'll give you a straight assessment. Dishwasher replacement is often more cost-effective than it is for larger appliances, and we'll tell you when that line has been crossed.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you charge for estimates?

For most repairs, we provide a diagnostic assessment and quote before any work begins. You'll know the cost upfront before we turn a wrench. There is a standard service call fee to come out and diagnose — that fee is applied toward your repair if you choose to proceed.

What areas do you serve?

We serve Bryan, College Station, and the surrounding Brazos Valley communities. If you're nearby and not sure whether we cover your area, give us a call at 979-402-1241 and we'll let you know.

What brands do you work on?

We work on all major appliance brands including Whirlpool, Maytag, GE, Samsung, LG, Frigidaire, Bosch, KitchenAid, Electrolux, Speed Queen, and more — both gas and electric, top-load and front-load. If you're not sure whether your brand or model is serviceable, just ask.

Do you offer same-day or emergency service?

We do our best to accommodate same-day appointments, especially for urgent situations like a refrigerator that's stopped cooling. Availability varies by day. Call 979-402-1241 and we'll let you know what we can do.

What's included in the maintenance plans?

Each maintenance plan includes an inspection and service visit for one or more appliances, depending on the plan tier. We check key components, clean critical areas (coils, filters, vents), run performance tests, and flag any early warning signs before they become expensive repairs. The Lil' Squatch Check covers one appliance; the Squatch Tune-Up covers two; Beast Mode covers your whole home. Replacement parts and labor for repairs found during the inspection are not included in the package pricing but will be quoted before any work proceeds.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash, check, and most major credit and debit cards. Payment is due at the time of service.

Do you fix gas appliances, or only electric?

We work on both gas and electric appliances — ovens, ranges, dryers, and more. All gas work is performed to manufacturer specification. If a gas line connection or shutoff is involved beyond the appliance itself, we'll let you know and coordinate accordingly.

What should I do if my appliance is making a burning smell or sounds dangerous?

Stop using it immediately. Unplug it if it's electric, or turn off the gas supply valve if it's a gas appliance. A burning smell — especially plastic or electrical — can indicate a fire risk. Call us at 979-402-1241 and we'll prioritize getting someone out to you. Don't run the appliance again until it's been inspected.
